Who We Are

 

Organization: SHRM-WC is an organization of HR and affiliated professionals who participate in the Chapter activities to keep current, exchange ideas and network. Today the organization has grown to include over one hundred members with 75 member companies representing over 27,000 employees in the Greater Danbury and surrounding regions.

Affiliation with SHRM National: SHRM-WC is affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a national and international association of human resource management professionals.

Goals: Our goal is to serve as a resource in strengthening and promoting the Human Resource function. The Chapter is one of 450 Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapters in the US. SHRM is the leading voice of the human resource profession. SHRM provides education and information services, conferences and seminars, government and media representation, online services, and publications to approximately 180,000 professional and student members worldwide.

History: SHRM-WC is a non-profit organization founded by Personnel Managers representing 10 area companies in October 1956. This "Personnel Council" was associated with the Danbury Chamber of Commerce until August 1989 when it became independent changing to the Personnel Management Association of Western Connecticut. Renamed in 1995 SHRM Western Connecticut Chapter, it continues a fine tradition professional development.
