(Introduction to CT’s Shared Work Program)

Note: New date of January 22, 2019
Event was rescheduled from January 8

Our “appetizer”  - All About the CT Shared Work Program
For our January event, we will start with a 30 minute presentation from the Department of Labor about their Shared Work Program.  In times of business downturns, this voluntary program allows any CT employer with 2 or more employees to reduce work hours instead of laying employees off.

The “main course” – Workplace Violence & Your Action Plan
After the introduction from the DOL, we’ll jump into the main event.  In this highly interactive presentation, we will delve into what your Emergency Action Plan should include to address various types of workplace violence.  We'll discuss the importance of a presence of mind and to have a plan in advance, including what information to have ready when calling 911.  Specific topics covered will include:   employee arguments, domestic violence situations, active shooters and crimes to individuals such as robberies.

Key Learning Objectives:

·       Identify an emergency situation
·       Know the best steps to protect all involved
·       Know what to do and when to do it
·       Understand the importance of having a presence of mind

Department of Labor:
Ashley Rivera and Jill Stevens of the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Special Programs Unit

Workplace Violence:
Chris Marciano, owner of Prepare to Act,  has been with the Watertown Police Department since August of 1997.  He spent the first eleven years of his career assigned to the patrol division.  In 2008 he had the opportunity to expand his experience by being assigned to a specialty unit under the auspices of the Connecticut State Police.  During this assignment he was promoted to the rank of Detective within the Watertown Police Department.  In April of 2011, after two and a half years assigned with the State Police, he returned to the Investigative Services unit.   In April of 2015 Chris was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and is currently assigned to the patrol division.
